Trimming The Government
Is One Thing
Annihilating It Is Another
Here’s what I believe are the facts based on what is happening now.
Trump Is Definitely Colluding With Putin
It is true that the FBI’s investigation into collusion came up with nothing conclusive but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a reality, it only means the it hasn’t been proven. Yet!
Suspending the investigation was a temporary stay, not an acquittal.
But we have to get real here. Can there be in any doubt that Trump has great respect for Putin, styles his leadership in the same way and makes decisions that favor Putin’s invasion of Ukraine?
- He’s accused Zelensky of starting the war with Russia.
- During his first term in office, he threatened to withhold congressionally allocated aid for Ukraine unless the Ukrainian government began investigations into Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, all of that done, of course, to bolster his efforts to win reelection.
- He is now strong arming Zelensky into giving away rights to Ukraine’s mineral resources without guaranteeing protection against Russia.
- Instead of declaring his opposition to Putin’s dictatorship, and all the abuse that goes with it, he makes admiring remarks about Putin’s skills and leadership.
How can you interpret this in any other way than to conclude the two leaders are in league.
If it looks, sounds and walks like a duck, what else do you need?
Maybe the reason Trump speaks out against war is because he doesn’t want to be put in a position where he might have to do battle with his buddy, Putin.
Trump Now Has Control Of The FBI
It’s a weird state of affairs at the moment, not because Trumps intent isn’t clear but because it is. He is slowly but surely eliminating legal barriers to his agenda and we aren’t as worry as we should be even though we see it happening.
With Kash Patel, an outspoken MAGA fan, the FBI can no longer be considered a non-partisan entity. Kash has made his intent clear. His stated plan is to go after anyone whom Trump believes is interfering with his agenda, including the media.
Kash is a high profile election denier and I’m curious whether the bulk of FBI personnel will be able to stomach his bias, even the ones who voted for Trump.
His readiness for the job of FBI Director has been questioned by many, including Republicans, but there’s no question about his bias or his intent. With Patel’s confirmation, Trump now has control of the only agency with the authority and resources to uphold the law at the highest levels of government.
Trump Has No Respect For Democracy
The most notable observations about Trump’s leadership can only lead one to believe he disdains democracy.
In 2020 he lost the election. Instead accepting the voters’ clear choice,
- He spent huge sums of money seeking out a court (60 law suits) who would help in his effort to overturn the elections.
- He attempted to twist the arm of Georgia’s governor into falsifying results.
- When that didn’t work, his cronies attempted subterfuge and lies to cast doubt on the election system in Georgia and tried to frame election workers in the process.
- Playing a supporting role, Georgians planned a scheme to put forward fake electors. A strategy used in Michigan also and considered by others.
- He encouraged the insurrection at the Capital on January 6.
These are the actions of insecure people who don’t believe in Democracy. Demanding access to positions of power is the equivalent of a coup, which is not a democratic stratagem.
Trump Has No Respect For The Law
This is a point that Trump proves for us.
The evidence is everywhere. Everything action he takes says “The laws don’t apply to me.” Every time he opens his mouth, treachery exudes and his actions boisterously flaunt legal obstacles.
His efforts to illegally rewrite the 2020 election results which led to and encouraged the events that occurred on January 6th should be enough to put him in jail but it doesn’t stop there.
Awarding Elon Musk a title for a job that doesn’t exist, instead of relying on the ones that do, is only the first infraction. Trump’s approval of Elon’s bull dozing personnel and departments with abandon, none of which has been sanctioned by congress, only makes it worse.
There’s is no end to Trump’s disregard for law and there is a long history of him breaking any and every law that got in his way and fighting anyone who disagreed.
He may not have the credentials of a Mafia Don but he sure has the qualities.
And now that he’s reelected, he’s making the assumption that his law breaking has been mandated.
Trump Is An Autocrat
America has always been the one country that stood up to and cried out against totalitarian regimes.
We’re the leading voice in that regard and in the past, we willing paid the price.
American forces, at great cost in terms of lives lost, were the deciding factor in winning two different world wars both of which were started by totalitarian regimes.
Those sacrifices are neither appreciated nor respected by Trump. He, himself, has never served in the military, has referred to Vets as losers and suckers and at this point, we can only guess how much he will allow Musk to dismantle benefits offered to veterans.
Trump sides more with the autocrats who start wars than he does with Democracy.
Of course, the question is why is he doing this.
He Interferes In Free Speech
Trump has consistently attacked the press, or at least those segments that don’t agree with him. The only press he seems to tolerate is that which agree with him and prints his excessive statements and outright lies.
And he freely insults and threatens any agencies that hold his decisions to account.
Jeff Bezos, of Amazon fame and owner of the Washington Post, recently directed the Post’s editorial staff to discontinue publishing opinions questioning Trump’s policies, a move called “craven” by Marty Baron, former Executive Editor of the Post. Baron further said Bezos “handled his ownership admirably for more than a decade. But his courage failed him when he needed it most.”
No doubt, pressure from the top encouraged this outcome.
Trump Dismantles Democratic Institutions
America is a great and growing constituency that requires strong institutions to manage the peace and order of society. Those institutions are large, ranging and complex.
Do they function perfectly? No.
There’s bound to be a certain degree of inefficiency.
But it works. It gets things done. It’s neither a deep state nor a conspiracy against private citizens.
Some of the things government does rubs fundamentalists the wrong way but you can’t please everyone and that’s hardly evidence of corruption.
The idea of corruption was planted and promoted by the one person who models the worst character ever and he sits in the Oval Office.
And in accordance with the lies he has popularized, he has turned Elon Musk loose to dismantle it all.
Elon’s job title is not lawful. Elon’s actions are not lawful but the more he gets done, the more Trump’s corruption rises to the surface.
For the record, Elon’s approach is not deliberate and the end effect won’t be to trim the government but to dismantle agencies that have served the American people well for years.
Dismantling democratic institutions is not Trump’s only crime but it is probably the biggest.
Is there waste? Absolutely! It’s impossible for a government large enough to maintain peace and order in a country that is home to the largest collection of commercial ventures without a little overlap.
We were doing fine before Elon and we’ll do fine after.
Should agencies be monitored and trimmed occasionally? Yes! But trimming can be done much more efficiently using the democratic processes and resources already in place through Congress.
Trump’s aim isn’t efficiency. He isn’t trimming the government, he’s annihilating it. And once finished, he will have achieved his end goal: centralizing all the buttons and strings in his office so he, as the supreme leader has absolute control.
He’ll even have access to all personal data for every block of voters.
It’s scary to think what he might do with that information.
All Of These Issues Don’t Add Up To Presidential
When it comes to government, we don’t put our trust in people. We have laws and procedures. We elect people to follow those laws and work with the procedures. When they fail to do that, we elect someone else to take up the mantle.
Donald Trump more than any other person demonstrates bad intent. Worse, he surrounds himself with people who align with his purposes.
The end won’t be a good result.
There isn’t a formula by which you can add all these wrong qualities together and come out with Presidential.
As a last thought, what election in any autocratically lead country is trusted? Does anyone really believe Putin is fairly elected?
If Donald Trump continues to seduce the American public, it won’t be long till we’ll be competing with Russia to see which country can be the most abusive.
Can we survive Trump? Yes, but not with our eyes closed.
